Text Art – Drop off

Drop Off

Software: Illustrator CC

Tutorial:  Satori Graphics

Like the last image (Deconstruct text), this is a text based image and like the last image the image and the text help reinforce rather other to make a stronger image. Despite the effectiveness the graphic to support the text there are some limitations to this effect (I think it would not work on a serif or a script font and it would not work very well with an the following letters: Q W E U S D J L Z V M and a few others might not work well in some cases).

Deconstruction Text

Software: Illustrator CC

Tutorial:  Vector Slate

Text graphics are useful – it has the power of both graphics and text. Both are good for communication, but if you put both together and they support the same message then they can be more than the sum of their parts (Think Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups… why an I hungry?).

Tutorial:  Image Inside Text with a Twist from How to Create BADA$$ Effects in Photoshop

I saw this Book for sale for 40% off – How could I resist?

I found this image quick and easy to do – but there a few tips in the tutorial I would have missed if I had tried to do this image without the tutorial. So it was educational.

Chalk Text Effect – Rule Breaker Text

rule-breaker_w_Chalkboard

Software: Adobe Photoshop CC, Adobe Illustrator CC

Tutorial: Spoon Graphics Blog

Creating an image on a chalkboard is now very trendy. At first resturants put out a listing of their daily specials on an A-frame chalkboard. Somewhere along the line it was no loner enough to just list them with your normal hand writing. Now a chalkboard’s message had to include embellishments, fonts, text on a path and banners. Now a whole industry seems to have grown around having the best looking chalkboard outside your store.

Split-flap Display – NON-STOP Poster

split-flap display - NON-STOP Movie Poster

split-flap display – NON-STOP Movie Poster

Software: Adobe Photoshop CC

Tutorial: Blue LightingTV YouTube Channel

Just like the previous Viking text image, this image is a text image. Once again it has the advantage of being easy to do, quick to complete and being fun to do. I guess it falls under the quick gratification category.

I have to admit, I did not see the 2014 mystery-action film NON-STOP starring Liam Neeson, but some of the movie posters featured the title of the movie on a split-flap display. Since the setting for the movie is on a passenger airliner, I assume that the split-flay display imagery is to invoke the signage that used to be popular in airports, and I assume are still used in many airports (although I also assume they are being replaced by digital signs).

Viking Style Text

Viking_text

Software: Adobe Photoshop CC

Tutorial: Blue LightingTV YouTube Channel

I have to admit, text images are fun to do. For the most part text images are relativity easy to do, don’t take too long to complete, and the effects can be very effective.

The choice of this image almost seems preordained. I recently started watching the Vikings television show, I saw a poster for the same show at a transit station, and I found this tutorial online. I will file it under fate.

50’s SCI-FI Posters

Sci-fi-GODZILLA-Poster

Software: Adobe Photoshop CS 5.1

Tutorial: Blue LightingTV YouTube Channel

When it comes to SCI-FI movies, the 1950’s monster movies were pretty cheesie, but Godzilla was better than most. He is very good cheese, in fact you could call him fromage. And yes Godzilla is “The King of Monsters”  and if you want argue you can take it up with the big guy!
