Art Deco Design

Art_Deco-gatsby

Software: Adobe Photoshop CC, Adobe Illustrator CC

Tutorial: Spoon Graphics Blog

This image is inspired from the posters used in the movie The Great Gatsby (2013) starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Since I did not see the movie, I am not sure if the art deco design was used in the movie or just in the marketing.

Split-flap Display – NON-STOP Poster

split-flap display - NON-STOP Movie Poster

split-flap display – NON-STOP Movie Poster

Software: Adobe Photoshop CC

Tutorial: Blue LightingTV YouTube Channel

Just like the previous Viking text image, this image is a text image. Once again it has the advantage of being easy to do, quick to complete and being fun to do. I guess it falls under the quick gratification category.

I have to admit, I did not see the 2014 mystery-action film NON-STOP starring Liam Neeson, but some of the movie posters featured the title of the movie on a split-flap display. Since the setting for the movie is on a passenger airliner, I assume that the split-flay display imagery is to invoke the signage that used to be popular in airports, and I assume are still used in many airports (although I also assume they are being replaced by digital signs).

Captain America – Winter Soldier Poster

Software: Adobe Photoshop CS 5.1

Tutorial: BakaArts YouTube Channel

Thanks to Photoshop it is possible to create some very amazing images fairly easily (note: I said fairly easily… not easily). But no matter how many filters, layer effects, layer styles, blending modes and more, sometimes it just comes down to trial and error, experimentation and just going with what works.

3D Anaglyphic Images

Software: Adobe Photoshop CS 5.1

Tutorial: Blue LightingTV YouTube Channel

Time to break out the old cyan-red 3D glasses and enjoy some old-school Anaglyphic 3D images. Lets face it, 3D in movies was usually just a gimmick. There are a few cases where 3D does make a movie better (Avatar and Hugo are two cases that come to mind), but mainly they were a way to make fair to poor movies stand out…. and that’s alright.

Agent Ops Movie Poster

Tutorial: Photoshop Down and Dirty Tricks for Designers

This image is supposed to be a spy movie poster and I think it rather good. Notice I did not say great, to be great it would have to Bond movie. James Bond made it respectable for spies to dress in a tuxedo. Can you imagine James Bond in scruffy plaid shirt and baggy track pants and cheap running shoes…. Nope and neither can you.

Now the big question: which was the best James Bond actor? Connery, Lazenby, Moore, Dalton, Brosnan or Craig… Let the bickering begin!

Silhouette Movie Poster

Composite_With_Silhouettes_1

Software: Adobe Photoshop CS 5.1

Tutorial: Photoshop Down and Dirty Tricks for Designers

I guess June is movie poster month, this is the fifth movie poster style graphic posting.
This image features a silhouette a pretty common and useful graphic staple – think the early ipod posters/commercials. But unlike the standard all black silhouette (or one colour silhouette), this design features  an image inset inside the silhouette. A great way to bring some impact to a design, and fairly easy to do in Photoshop.
