Puppet Lady

Software: Adobe Photoshop CS 5.1

Tutorial: PDS Fan

This surreal image of a puppet lady was originally supposed to be done for around Halloween, but life got busy and I just got around to doing this image. The image has a surreal / gothic look to it, but some how I feel this would be the type of image that would be created/used by Tim Burton (maybe Corpse Bride, Alice in Wonderland or Big Fish).

Ah, the femme fatale, a woman of mysterious and seductive charm who makes your heart say yes, but your mind says danger! Literature is full of enchantress who leads men happily to their compromising and deadly fate. This image tries to capture the hypnotic power a femme fatale has over prey. I say tries, since this image is on the normal world, where a femme fatale works on a plane beyond the normal world.

This Photoshop image is a great use of masks, layer blends and layer styles to create an effective mood of seductive danger.

This image and the Fallen Angel image are both Halloween treat. These images are on the unsettling or uncomfortable side (Halloween does not just have to be just about bloody horror).

Once again this is an image that is created from various image parts and using layer styles and blending modes are brought together to make s singular unified image. This is once of the true power of the more recent versions of Photoshop.

I love the concept of steam punk – so when I saw this image, I had to develop my own version of it. I think one of the most interesting things about this image was that the starting base woman image used to make this image. The image of the original model shows the woman with blonde hair in a tight braid. As you can tell – things got edited.

This image is an example of how items from different sources can be brought together and made to appear as part of a unified image. In this case only the background image had a blue cast. By using layer styles and layer blends a unified colour scheme was developed.

If you ever saw the opening credits to the show “The Outer Limits” you saw images like the above. This style of image was made popular by Jerry Uelsmann – In fact much of his artwork was used in “The Outer Limits” opening (the image of the house with the tree roots is one of his most famous images). Uelsmann’s image style brings together common items in uncommon settings and arrangements. This images are black and white as a rule.

Half way through this image a thought came to me – This image is about light, but all images created on a computer are about light, but this this one makes it obvious.

I have liked what Wrigley has done with the print and television advertising of 5 gum. I felt that this image would  fit with their advertising style.
