Rope

slip-knot-design-black

Software: Adobe Photoshop CC, Adobe Illustrator CC

Tutorial: Spoon Graphics Blog

Some graphics are dramatic, this image is not dramatic but it is noticeable in it’s technical elegance. To create this image I created rope style brush that could be applied to a line. Then through some cutting of lines and arranging lines to the front or back, I was able to make it appear that the line has been turned into a slip knot. Most of this work was done in Illustrator, with the colouring done in Photoshop.  Not dramatic technique, but certainly effective.

Cube Logo

Software: Adobe Illustrator CC

Tutorial: Kaukab Yaseen – YouTube Channel

This design is a bit of the normal for me in that it uses 3D and transparency in Illustrator. I have used both 3D and transparency before, but not in Illustrator and not both in the same design.

Art Deco Design

Software: Adobe Photoshop CC, Adobe Illustrator CC

Tutorial: Spoon Graphics Blog

This image is inspired from the posters used in the movie The Great Gatsby (2013) starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Since I did not see the movie, I am not sure if the art deco design was used in the movie or just in the marketing.

Split-flap Display – NON-STOP Poster

split-flap display - NON-STOP Movie Poster

split-flap display – NON-STOP Movie Poster

Software: Adobe Photoshop CC

Tutorial: Blue LightingTV YouTube Channel

Just like the previous Viking text image, this image is a text image. Once again it has the advantage of being easy to do, quick to complete and being fun to do. I guess it falls under the quick gratification category.

I have to admit, I did not see the 2014 mystery-action film NON-STOP starring Liam Neeson, but some of the movie posters featured the title of the movie on a split-flap display. Since the setting for the movie is on a passenger airliner, I assume that the split-flay display imagery is to invoke the signage that used to be popular in airports, and I assume are still used in many airports (although I also assume they are being replaced by digital signs).

Viking Style Text

Viking_text

Software: Adobe Photoshop CC

Tutorial: Blue LightingTV YouTube Channel

I have to admit, text images are fun to do. For the most part text images are relativity easy to do, don’t take too long to complete, and the effects can be very effective.

The choice of this image almost seems preordained. I recently started watching the Vikings television show, I saw a poster for the same show at a transit station, and I found this tutorial online. I will file it under fate.
