Battlefield Effect

27 Oct

Software: Adobe Photoshop CS 5.1

Tutorial: BakaArts YouTube Channel

As part of it’s marketing, the game Battlefield has created a graphic style where the a solider is shown on a back-lite blue ish background with an orange-yellow highlight on the solider. In this image I was adding a different soldier image to the prepared background image.

The “battlefield effect” was created using gradient maps, clipping layers and layer blend modes (beyond the standard “normal” blend mode).  Once again one of the cool things was how these effects could be quickly used on a different foreground image. See the example shown below – total time to swap out Captain America for Iron Man – about 5 minutes. Time to swap out Iron man for Thor – about 3 min (I’m getting better at this).
