Unworldly Landscape

Software: Adobe Photoshop CS 5.1

Tutorial: psdbox.com

If you ever saw the opening credits to the show “The Outer Limits” you saw images like the above. This style of image was made popular by Jerry Uelsmann – In fact much of his artwork was used in “The Outer Limits” opening (the image of the house with the tree roots is one of his most famous images). Uelsmann’s image style brings together common items in uncommon settings and arrangements. This images are black and white as a rule.

I have to admit I was hesitant to create this style of image. This is a style of image that I would want to get 100% right, because if you get it wrong it looks very wrong. I this case, I did keep in some colour and as much as I was adding things to the image, in the end I also kept removing things from the image. This image was made much easier to create and experiment with using layer styles.

Have to admit… it looks good. I will have to try to do this again.
