1930’s – 1940’s style posters

25 Jul

Software: Adobe Photoshop CS 5.1

Tutorial: Blue LightingTV YouTube Channel

This set of images was based on the image above. This is a tutorial image is based on the WPA posters of the 1930’s. The posters had a strong Art Deco feel to them and tended to use very stylized symbols on the posters.

The font used for this tutorial is one called “American Captain” – a reworking of the font used in the movie “Captain America”. Strangely the font style reminded me of the posters of the 1940’s, but not American posters, but the posters of the Soviet Union. This lead to a quick of study of the Soviet style posters in the 1940’s and I decided to use some of the techniques used in the first tutorial to create my own posters.
