Agent Ops Movie Poster

Agent-Ops-poster

Software: Adobe Photoshop CS 5.1

Tutorial: Photoshop Down and Dirty Tricks for Designers

This image is supposed to be a spy movie poster and I think it rather good. Notice I did not say great, to be great it would have to Bond movie. James Bond made it respectable for spies to dress in a tuxedo. Can you imagine James Bond in scruffy plaid shirt and baggy track pants and cheap running shoes…. Nope and neither can you.

Now the big question: which was the best James Bond actor? Connery, Lazenby, Moore, Dalton, Brosnan or Craig… Let the bickering begin!

Silhouette Movie Poster

Tutorial: Photoshop Down and Dirty Tricks for Designers

I guess June is movie poster month, this is the fifth movie poster style graphic posting.
This image features a silhouette a pretty common and useful graphic staple – think the early ipod posters/commercials. But unlike the standard all black silhouette (or one colour silhouette), this design features  an image inset inside the silhouette. A great way to bring some impact to a design, and fairly easy to do in Photoshop.

Step and Repeat Background

stepandrepete

Software: Adobe Photoshop CS 5.1

Tutorial: Photoshop Down and Dirty Tricks for Designers

The is a bit of an odd ball tutorial image. The main focus of this Photoshop effect is not the main image of the woman, but the background. The cool thing is that the circles in the background image are made from one original circle which is moved and scaled using the “step and repeat” command. The colour is made from an adjustment layer – so if I wanted to change the colour it would take only seconds.
P.S. The woman reminds me of a young Annie Lennox when she was in the Eurythmics.

Thunderbird Poster

Tutorial: Blue LightingTV YouTube Channel

The text treatment used on the Godzilla poster reminded me a bit of how the text was handled on the opening of the British TV show “Thunderbirds”. I was happy with the Godzilla poster, so I was confident that I could make a good looking Thunderbirds poster using the same techniques and a few of the same file resources.  Mind you it was easy, I had a best Thunderbird in the image – Thunderbird 2!

What is it about the end of everything? Create a movie about Utopia and I bet it would tank at the box office. Create a movie about the end of world… be it from a meteor, climate change, nuclear war, zombies or alien attack and bingo… box office gold!

Vendetta Movie Poster

Vendetta

Software: Adobe Photoshop CS 5.1

Tutorial: Photoshop Down and Dirty Tricks for Designers

This image is good example of the power of levels, layer adjustments and what can be done with a few nondescript background images. Only the image of assassin – I know a major part of the final image – was a specialty image. The background image was a very average urban street image taken on a bright, dry day. A few layer and level adjustments and the image is one of danger and foreboding on a wet and rainy night.
Pretty cool if you think about it.

Binary – Movie Poster

Software: Adobe Photoshop CS 5.1

Tutorial: Photoshop Down and Dirty Tricks for Designers

This image is a good example of how patterns and layers styles are so great in Photoshop. One of the interesting things about this image is that it has only one binary pattern, but it has been layered three times and each layer has a different scaling and layer masks.
