The Maltese Falcon is a classic movie from 1941. It has everything that makes a classic film noir style movie – hard-boiled detective, cold-blooded murder, a seductive femme fatale and a lost treasure worth killing over… Great stuff.
The original posters for the movie featured a more like “crime detective novel” style with Humphrey Bogart holding a gun and Mary Astor looking seductive. The type was bold and raw with the line “A Story as Explosive as his Blazing Automatics”. The falcon itself did not appear in the poster (although it did appear in later posters and non-English posters).
I always thought that it was a movie that could have done an art deco style poster, and that is what I have done. I am rather happy with the image.
